Langkawi Family Trip - Day 2 (14/10/12)

We woke up to a very sunny and clear sky. By 8.15am, we were at the resort cafeteria to have our breakfast. The view was great as the building was overlooking the seaside. Breakfast spread was moderate, they served cereal with milk, toast bread, eggs (omelette, sunny side-up, scrambled), fried noodles, juice, coffee and tea.

 

 

The highlight for that morning was the Cable car ride. The kids were really excited about it. The journey from our resort to Oriental Village took about 20 minutes. Oriental Village is a shopping area where the cable car station is located. After walking a short distance from the entrance, we saw the cable car station. Fortunately there wasn’t any queue. Admission was RM15 for adults and RM10 for kids. (need to show mykad).

 

 

After purchasing our tickets, we hopped into a Gondola and up we went to Mount Machinchang. It was a pleasant journey with lots of great views of the island. We could also see the Seven Wells Waterfall from up there. It took about 10 minutes to reach the Middle Station where we stopped for a panoramic view on the platform and photography. Then we took another Gondola to the top station. When near to the top, the gondola was being pulled up vertically with high speed. Truly great experience !

We walked to the 360 degree viewing platforms, took many photographs and enjoyed the breeze of fresh air. Intermittently we couldn’t see anything below, all covered by fog. The weather was siding us as it wasn’t too hot up there. The kids were happiest when daddy bought them ice creams. Unfortunately the famous Sky Bridge was closed for maintenance on that day. We could only see the winding structures from the viewing deck.

After spending about 2 hours up there, we bid farewell to Mount Machinchang. At the Oriental Village, we walked around but there wasn’t much to see. We drove to Telaga Harbour Park at Pantai Kok for a KFC lunch.

 

 

In the afternoon, we had planned for a light and easy activity by visiting some of the nicest hotels in Langkawi mainly Datai and Andaman. Both hotels were designed with Balinese theme, with their own private beach.

By now the kids were a little exhausted and they slept through the journey back to our resort. We had a laid back afternoon in our room, took some light snacks which we brought from home before changing into our swimsuits for another round of splash in the sea.

Low tide was just over, so we saw many seashells on the sand. The kids were excited and Jared was so frightened of the sea creatures that he clung on to me like a koala bear. We played with sand for awhile before going into the water. Today’s wave wasn’t as strong compared to yesterday. Emily and Jared had a splendid time “chopping waves” with daddy.

 

For dinner, we dined in Unkaizan Japanese Restaurant. The seating was tatami style. We ordered Grilled salmon with steamed rice, tempura with steamed rice, teriyaki chicken and green tea. Taste was good, we paid ~RM150 which I felt it was a little pricey.

 



 

Langkawi Family Trip - Day 1 (13/10/12)

 It has been quite awhile since the last time we went on a family trip. We decided to bring the kids to Langkawi for a 4 days 3 nights getaway. It was their first visit and second for hubby and myself which was around 20+ years ago :)

We left Penang around 7am and drove to Kuala Kedah which took about 1.5 hours. It was a pleasant drive as traffic was good. As we were reaching Kuala Kedah, the whole stretch of highway was covered with fog, probably due to rain earlier.

 

 

We managed to catch the 9am ferry, which took another 1.5 hours to reach Langkawi island. I prepared some sandwiches from home so that we could have breakfast in the ferry.

 

 

We finally reached Langkawi island. Weather was sunny with some dark clouds.



 

 

 

Upon reaching Kuah Jetty, we headed to car rental counters to look for good bargains. Hubby managed to get a good deal from one of the counters which offered us Kia Picanto for RM200 for 4 days. Pretty good deal as now is low peak season.

We then headed to Langkawi Bird Paradise and Wildlife Park. Entrance fee was RM15 for adults and RM10 for Emily. Jared got to enter for free even though it was stated age 3 and above is RM10. We also bought some food to feed the animals for RM10. It was a good experience for Emily and Jared as they get to be really close to some of the animals and fed them food that we purchased earlier. There were instructions on cages as to what food should be fed to the animals and the animals are smart enough to ignore food which they don't like :)

After that, we went to check-in at the Sunset Beach Resort. The rate was RM242 inclusive of breakfast for 4, and the room came with 1 queen and 1 single bed. It is located at Pantai Tengah and our room is just 1 min walk to the beach. The room is spacious and clean, plus the toilets are big too. Overall it is a good resort.

 

 

After freshing up, we drove around to hunt for food. We found SunCafe  and settled our late lunch by ordering pizza and burger. Everyone was happy with the food quality.

 

 

After satisfying our tummies, we went back to our room to change into our swimsuits before heading for the beach. No photos as I didn't bring the camera along. We had a great splash in the sea water. It's the kids' first time experience splashing in sea water.

For dinner, we drove around and found Fat Mum Seafood Restaurant, which was recommended by some bloggers. The food was ok, I felt that it was a little too oily and salty.

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival 2012

Wishing everyone a Happy Mid-Autumn Festival.
We took Emily and Jared to play lanterns at Gurney Drive last night. It was very happening around that area with many other kids taking various types of lanterns.



I also managed to grab mooncakes with 35% discount and free 2 mooncakes if buy 4 pcs. Even though there were not many flavours left at this time, but I was more than happy to still able to get the mixed nuts and lotus paste flavours, which are our favourites.

Today we had a surprise cheese cake gift from Emily's English teacher. Very nice of her to bake us this lovely cake. So we had cheesecake instead of mooncake during tea-time today :)

Children's Day Celebration At Jared's Kindy

Today, Jared's kindy celebrated Children's Day. The theme of the celebration is "Fancy Dress Parade". Kids are encouraged to wear fancy costumes. We didn't specially get him any costumes, so we let him wore the tuxedo vest which was given by aunty JY earlier. All the other kids were well dressed up, some with wings attached to their costumes.

Updates of Jared @3.5yrs old

Weight : 17.5kg (weighed 3 months ago)
Height : 109 cm

Time flies and it has been awhile since I last updated his progress.  Very active boy, will play from morning till evening during weekends and most of the time he will skip his afternoon naps.
At this age, he can be very demanding especially when daddy is around or if overly tired.
Likes to disturb "jie jie" whenever she is doing something and at the same time they are good playmates. Not too outgoing and needs time to adapt to new environments.
He is a left-hander, however his preschool teacher is teaching him to write using his right hand.
His vocabulary is continuously increasing. Understands the concepts of "tallest" "biggest" "same," and "more".

Some of his leisure activities include
- loves cycling either in his tricyle or bicycle with training wheels with speed and skillful steering
- Make up stories while playing with his Thomas train sets
- builds tower with blocks
- playing with jigsaw puzzles
- forms shapes with playdoh
- likes listening to stories

Food
- Loves to eat eggs, fish and meat.
- Quite a picky eater, especially not favouring green leafy vege.
