Happy New 2010 Year

Wishing you and your family a Joyful and prosperous 2010...

Next Stage of Childhood

Believe it or not, my little girl will no more be little, she will be entering Primary One when the new school term begins, which is next Monday. Infact today is her school orientation day at Kwang Hwa. She has been really excited for the past one week about her new school and this morning unlike all the other mornings, we didnt need to wake her up, she was all awake at 645am..LOL. After fussing a little with wearing her school uniform, she was finally fully ready to leave for school, eagerly carrying her school bag.

Hubby took leave from work to accompany her to the orientation. I was not able to join them as Jared's babysitter is away for the whole of this week and I have to take the week off to babysit him instead.

I wasn't sure how she felt about 1st day at school but to my surprise when hubby and I picked her up from her daycare this evening, she told me that she has enjoyed her new school very much.. Err.. I hope she will continue to tell me this once the actual school work starts.. hahhaha

Ball Game with Daddy

Last weekend, hubby introduced Jared to his new toy which is a 3 sports in 1 set (basketball, football and baseball). Jared loves this toy especially the ball which he finds very tasty. It took quite awhile before daddy managed to convince him to throw the ball into the basket. See how happy and excited the little boy was with his achievement, LOL

The 1st and 19 More to Go

1 week after her 6th birthday, Emily dropped her first milk tooth. It has been wobbling for a couple of weeks before it finally dropped when we went to Queensbay Mall yeterday. She was pretty excited and glad that it had dropped by itself instead of having to go to the dentist. We helped her to keep her tooth in a container and daddy even told her that the tooth fairy will come to get her tooth, wonder if she believes this fairy tale... LOL

Emily's 6th Birthday

Emily turned 6 today. We had a modest birthday celebration at her Ah Ku's house within family members only. This year she wanted a princess character birthday cake. Due to the size of the cake, we could only opt for a Disney Princesses sugar paper placed on top of a moist chocolate cake.

It was also a double birthday celebration as her cousin also celebrated her birthday today. Look at the 2 birthday girls :)

Jared at 8 months

Weight : 10.2kg

Jared turned 8 months early this week. We took him to his Paediatrician for his 2nd dosage of pneumococal vaccination. 2 days ago, poor boy, he cried and screamed so much when the Dr. vaccinated him.

He has become very active, as such it is very challenging when it comes to changing his nappy, or to dress him up. There was one night where he crawled backwards and fell off from our bed, thankfully there were no bruises though he cried quite a bit.

Physically, he is still not crawling much (kind of lazy), able to sit and stand up when holding on his baby cot. His babysitter told us that he can wave goodbye when other kids wave and say goodbye to him, however we have yet to see this act from him yet :)

He is a happy baby but can be cranky at times. He responds by smiling and laughing excitedly whenever people talk to him. He loves to play with Emily and when he cried, Emily will act like big sister to soothe him, suprisingly he would stop crying... LOL

He sleeps very little during the daytime. He would cry if we try to put him to sleep in a lying position. And guess what, we caught him sleeping in a sitting position, LOL.

However he would sleep around 8pm till the next morning without waking up for any night feedings.

As for teeth, we could see 2 bottom incissors already. He now puts almost anything into his mouth that comes within his reach, so we have to be extra careful not to have small items near him.

He is taking both mommy's milk and formula. He still drinks milk only when sleeping. Already eating cereal and rice porridge. Food that I have introduced to him include brocolli, millet, white/brown rice, sweet potatoes, potatoes, pumpkin, dragon fruit, persimmon, steamed bananas and fish meat.

Team Building

It is the time of the year again where all departments in my company organise team building activities. This time our team building is kind of relaxing, where we went to bowling at Penang Bowl and then headed to The Brasserie at Trader's hotel to have lunch.

The bowling event was interesting, surprisingly there were many strikes among my colleagues and there was one colleague who rolled the ball in slow motion and yet she got several strikes in a row.. LOL
At The Brasserie, we had the semi-buffet french cuisine, which comes with buffet appetizer and dessert plus 1 main dish. The appetizers include selection of crispy salads, cold dishes as well as mushroom soup. The ones that made us happy most were the sashimi as well as the fresh oysters but fresh oyster is a no no for me :). The mushroom soup is yummy too.. We were all enjoying the appetizers and desserts so much, by the time the main dish was served, we were more than half full.

After lunch, we headed to the cineplex in Prangin Mall to watch a cantonese movie which has a lousy storyline.

He Can Stand

Hubby managed to grab some shots of Jared standing independently in his playpen for the first time. It all happened this afternoon when I wanted to put him in his playpen, however he refused to bend his knees to be sitted, instead his two little hands grab on the side bar and ta daaa... he is standing all by himself.. Look at his smiles of satisfaction.

Two Decade Reunion

Believe it or not, it has been 20 years since I left form 5. Today we had a lunch reunion gathering among our Convent classmates at E&O hotel. Many wanted to attend but at the last minute a few of them “fly aeroplane”. However it was really great to meet up with old friends where I could hardly recognized one of the friends who have not met since we graduated. And she has a kid who is already 14 years old. WOW…..

BTW, I wouldn't have been able to join this reunion if not for hubby who helped to babysit both the children. Thank you :)

The Graduation Day

Last Saturday was Emily's kindy graduation day. This year it was held at the Tabung Haji function hall, pretty nice place. Emily participated in a dance performance and gave 2 speeches, 1 is her performance speech and the other one is the finale speech.

The school also organized an event where kids presented flowers to their dad/mum as a way for them to say thank you.

Goodbye kindergarten, Primary One Here I come

Last Friday marked the last day of Emily’s official kindergarten school days. I can’t believe my little girl will be entering primary 1 when the new school semester begins in January next year, time really flies so quickly. She will still go to her current daycare centre till end of November before switching to another daycare the following month which specializes in handling primary school children only. I guess life will be a little different there compared to the current daycare where she still gets to take afternoon naps. No surprise that she will need some time to adapt to this new environment.

Is she excited about all this ? I would say Yes and No.. occasionally she would tell me that she is going to miss her current friends and teachers and at times looking forward to entering school.

There are a couple of things which we need to prepare before she starts her primary 1, including getting her uniforms, school shoes, bag, stationeries and bla..bla..bla…

As for hubby and myself, life will be a little hectic for us too as her new daycare is quite a distance from where we stay. Imagine having to send Jared to the babysitter and sending her to the daycare which are both in different directions and yet be in office on time for early meetings.. Phew

Happy Birthday Daddy

Last Monday was hubby's birthday. We had a simple celebration at home with a capuccino cheese cake for daddy to blow the "so many" candles :). A few days before, I told Emily that daddy will be celebrating his birthday soon. She was very excited and these were the conversations we had.

Emily : Mummy, how are we going to celebrate daddy's birthday ?
Mummy : We will buy a cake for daddy only, no time to go for dinner bcoz you have class on that night.
Emily : [Face turned sour].... Nevermind, we eat cake for dinner lor.

Phew... I thought she was going to be disappointed as she seemed to associate birthday with dinner which we used to do previously but I guess she has grown up and able to understand more now. Daddy also received a birthday card from his little girl.

Dragon Fruit Lover

Lately there are many dragon fruits (also known is red pitaya) sold in the Sg. Ara morning wet market at reasonable price, 3 average size fruit for RM10, and they are extremely sweet. It is a good source of vitamin C, antioxidants, helps lower cholestrol and blood pressure too. Some people told me not to give to Jared as he is still young and this fruit might be too cooling. However I read that if eaten regularly, will alleviate chronic respiratory tract ailments, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitaya .
Last weekend I introduced pureed dragon fruit to Jared in small portion and he simply loved it..probably due to its sweetness. Cutie little red lips..LOL

Emily's Fairy Tale

Lately Emily has been really interested in fairytales. Some of her favourites include the movies,Enchanted, Diamond Castle and Swan Lake. She will sometimes performed role plays of the princesses. Last night I asked her if she would like to write about anything she likes and this was what she came up with. I did help her with a few spellings. Err..no comments on the storyline. A passage without fullstops, LOL.. Good attempt though.Add Image

Wishee Washee Wee

Last weekend we gave Jared a bath toy duckling when he was bathing. The moment he saw the toy in the bath tub, he couldn't resist from grabbing it. By his looks, he is definately very curious with his new duckling.

Freshly-made Yoghurt

Yesterday I have put my yoghurt maker to use after buying it for more than a month. I took the shortcut way by using the Easiyo base and culture mix. Preparation was extremely easy, simply mixing the powder with cold drinking water in the yoghurt jar and place it into the yoghurt maker which is filled with boiling water. When I checked this morning, it was still very watery. However in the evening, it was already set.

Emily couldn't wait till it is chilled, so I gave her some. The texture was really creamy and smooth. Instead of adding fruits when serve, I added the St Dalfour jam which enhances the taste even more. Simply delicious.

Growing Up

Today marks the 1st time Jared is sitting unsupported, though he still topples after some time like "bu tau ong". He was happily playing with his stack blocks in the baby cot before hubby put him to bed and he fell asleep on his own while we were taking our dinner. Good little baby ...
Time to introduce more toys to him.

More Variety of Food for Jared

Yesterday I bought some organic sweet potatoes, pumpkin and potatoes for Jared. I steamed and made them into mushy texture and mix with cereal and EBM. Today I introduced the Healthy Times Organic Mixed Grain cereal, mixed with rice cereal. He seemed to enjoy all these different varieties of food even though sometimes he will playfully blow out his food and it can get a little messy :)

Doing Their Revisions

Emily has been busy doing her revisions this weekend as her exams will be coming in early November. When hubby and myself were busy cleaning the house this morning, Emily has decided to do her revision with Jared. Look at how engrossed he was with what Emily was showing to him and not to mention, he tried to snatch the book too :)

Shiitake Mushroom Alfredo Pasta

All this while I only cooked spaghetti with tomato based sauce. I have always wanted to try the Alfredo sauce and today I got the opportunity to do so using the Shiitake mushroom Alfredo sauce. To make the sauce enough for 3 of us, I added onions, low fat fresh milk, cheese and some tapioca flour for thickening. The taste was pretty good but conclusion is we still prefer the tomato based sauce.

Jared at 6 Months

Weight : 9.4kg

Time really flies, Jared is already 6 months old. Every morning, he would wake up at ~7am, if he didn't spot us in the room, then he will be able to play on his own and making all sorts of funny sounds. The moment he spotted daddy, he would screamed to be carried. There were several occurances where I purposely ignored him while in the room, he actually made some sounds to grab my attention. LOL.

He can now sit with support at his back and I would put him in the high chair whenever I feed him cereal or when he wants attention during our mealtime. He would happily sit in the chair looking at us eating :).

He definately likes to play with Emily, will be all excited whenever Emily played or talked to him.

When we purposely place his toy a little further from him to attract his attention, he will somehow make his way to grab it, but not through crawling. Tummy time has definately helped to strengthen his hand and neck muscles. He now loves to be on his tummy and changing nappies is a challenging task as he kept wanting to roll over.

We also noticed that he could understand the word "No" :). The other day when hubby left the camera near him, he pushed himself towards the camera and pulled it towards his mouth. When hubby mentioned the word "No eating" a few times, he immediately stopped putting the camera near to his mouth. There were many other scenarios which proofed to us that he could understand this word :) He is also very happy each time we say "Counting, 1,2,3,4,5", will be smiling and looking attentively at our fingers. Whenever he fussed while we were cleaning him up for the night, switching on the nursery songs will help to calm him down, looks like he loves to listen to nursery songs.

As for his milk intake, he still refuses to drink when he is awake, noticed that he prefers EBM more than formula. I really hope this habit will end soon. I will be introducing some vegetables and fruits to his diet this weekend so that he will experience more varieties of food. His PD has cautioned us not to give him any citrus fruits until around 1 year old.

Jared's 1st Solid

Yesterday, Jared was introduced to his 1st solid meal as he will turn 6 months next week. I started him off with the Heinz rice cereal to avoid any allergies to other types of grains. I mixed the cereal with my EBM. Initially I expected this session to be a messy one but to my surprise, Jared ate really well for a first timer. He seemed to know how to open his mouth when I put the spoon near to it. I felt the mixture was a little too thick, so today I made the mixture more runny.

It was also the first time for him to drink from the sippy cup but he was already holding the cup like a pro :)

Bought the Healthy Times organic mixed grain cereal too, but will use it later to avoid any allergies at this early stage
