Jared's 4th Birthday

Last Sunday, our boy has turned 4. He has been looking forward to his birthday and even requested for an IronMan cake. Initially I had wanted to order a cake for him but since I have baked my mum a cake, I thought I should also bake one for him. I managed to convince him that his cake will not be Ironman, instead will have M&Ms on it. It was a chocolate cake and I used the same dressing as my mum's cake, adding M&Ms, coconut  and dark chocolate flakes and ferrero rocher as decorations.

Jared was really excited and happy to see his cake when he woke up in the morning. Emily also made him a birthday card.

After seeing mummy in action, he also pretended to bake a cake for himself, using the birthday star given to him by his kindy.

My Mum's Birthday

Yesterday, we celebrated my mum's birthday, 3 days ahead of the actual day. We had a family dinner at PSC. My mum has been a great role model for myself, a humble and quiet lady yet supportive of us all.
To add more fun to the celebration, I had decided to bake her a birthday cake. Since my mum doesn't take anything with chocolate, I found a perfect recipe for her cake, fresh fruit cheese cake. I was glad it turned out to be really good and everyone gave the thumbs up. Thanks to SH for sharing this great recipe.

Pizza for Dinner

Yesterday, I tried baking pizza for dinner using off-the-shelf pizza base. This gave me the opportunity to use the pizza stone that was bought donkey years ago.

For the toppings, I used spaghetti sauce, cooked pork, fresh salmon, spinach, green bell pepper, cherry tomatoes onions and finally sprinkled with cheese.

It would have been better if I have sprinkled more cheese. Emily loves it and she said is better than pizza hut because according to her, pizza hut's a tad too dry and this one is juicier. But I think other wise :)
I still have 1 piece of the base. Will try with other types of toppings another time.

And I realised that I have made some mistakes when using the pizza stone.
1) Need to heat up the stone before cooking pizza to avoid cracking the stone. Luckily mine didn't crack.
2) Do not grease or oil the stone, just use cornmeal to aid removal. I did the former and now there is stain on the surface :(
3) Never wash the stone with dish wash, just rinse with water.

Emily's Grade 3 Ballet Exam

Yesterday, Emily had her grade 3 ballet exam. It was in the morning, so I took time-off from office to fetch her from school to the ballet centre. I also engaged the centre to tie her bun, as I can't tie as neatly as them. This year the exam lasted for almost 1 hour, unfortunately parents are not allowed to even peep into the exam hall :)
