iPod for My Man

Last week, hubby's department had a dinner reception at Suffolk House restaurant. As wives and significant others are allowed to join this reception, I went along with hubby leaving the kids with babysitter and a friend. I don't have much to comment on the food, except for the good atmosphere which really made up for everything. At the end of the reception, there were 2 lucky draws for iPod Nano. Guess what, when hubby was announced as one of the winners, my jaw almost dropped, LOL.
And of course he is happy as he now gets to enjoy his music when he goes to the gym....

Jared At 1 Year Old

Weight : 10.5kg [has been stagnant for the last 3 months, wonder where does all the food that he has eaten go to ? :) ]
Teeth : 7 incisors. (4 top and 3 bottom, where is the bottom 4th tooth?)

Jared turned 1 year old about 2 weeks ago. Got his MMR vaccination yesterday, where he started to scream and cried the moment we put him on his PD's bed. Guess he knew what was coming next, LOL.

Being able to walk on his own now, he seems to be happier as he can walk anywhere around the house. Being extremely active, he has learned to climb up the sofa and bed as well as getting down on his own. When we switch on the music that he likes, he will shake his butt and smile happily. When he doesn't get what he wants, he will scream and throws tantrum on the floor :( , hope this attitude will go away soon. He loves to play with his jie jie, will lie down on her face or tummy if jie jie is on the bed, so jie jie is really scared of him. Whenever anyone leaves the house and closes the door, he will cry so loudly as if he is being left all alone. Loves to play peekaboo, the other day I was surprised when he lifted up his elbow to cover his eyes and when i mentioned peekaboo, I see you, he moved away his elbow and laughed loudly. Definitely, a playful toddler...
He also adores bigger size soft toys, Pooh the Bear being his favourite.

As for language development, he is starting to speak Hokkien dialect due to his babysitter who speaks to him more in Hokkien than Mandarin, LOL. When he wants to eat, he will say "Ai Chiak". He also calls his babysitter "Ah Ma" and when he comes home he will also shout Ah Ma when he wants something :). Will call "jie" when he sees Emily and calls me Ma or is it Ah Mah when he wants to get out of the baby cot, I really don't know :).

For food, he is taking 2-3 meals of solid which includes cereal, multigrain porridge, fish, potatoes, carrot, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, brocolli, spinach, green beans, "kampung" eggs, red dates, kei chi, tomatoes, tofu and will continue to explore new food for him. As for milk, he is still on BM and formula, will be switching from Enfalac A+ to Gain Plus soon.

Baking Muffins

It has been awhile since I last baked anything due to my busy schedule. Last Sunday, I got into the baking mood again and decided to bake muffins. I was a little lazy so I went to Jusco to grab a packet of orange poppyseed muffin mix flour. All I had to do was add water, 3 eggs and vegetable oil. But guess what, after pouring the mixture into the muffin tray and put them into the oven, I then realized I forgot to add the vegetable oil, how forgetful of me...... Am glad the muffins still turned out quite OK.

Wanting to be a little adventurous, I decided to prepare icing cream and spread it on top of the muffins. Emily was excited when she saw me preparing the icing cream that she also wanted to lend a hand. So I got her to sprinkle some chocolate sugar decoration strands.

This was how my muffins turned out. Err.. I guess I still have lots of improvement to make on the icing cream, LOL

Also due to my carelessness, I got quite a bad burnt mark on my right hand by touching my skin against the hot oven door when removing the muffins :)

Jared's 1st Birthday

We celebrated Jared's birthday on last Saturday, 4 days earlier, because the actual day falls on a weekday. It was a modest birthday party with family members at my brother's house.

As I had wanted to keep nice photographs for this event, I engaged my brother, who is a "professional photographer" :), to be Jared's photographer for the night.

We ordered a cake with the design of basketball as Jared loves his basketball toy.

He was so excited the moment he saw the candle lit up and wanted to grab the fire, LOL. He doesn't seem to understand what was happening that night but was surely enjoying all the attention given to him by Ah Kong, Ah Ma, Ah Ku, Ah Kim, his cousins and jie jie.

Happy Birthday my darling Jared.

Doesn't he look so behaved posing with his birthday cake or is it just a camera trick ? :)

Posing with Ah Kong and Ah Ma.

He Can Walk...

Jared finally took the courage to walk by himself last week, after having to walk with support for more than 2 months. He would be so excited each time he got up to walk. Look at his big smiles all the way while walking. Isn't he adorable ?

Finger Food

I have started introducing snacks to Jared since he was 8 months old. It comes really handy when hubby and I want to have a decent meal in the restaurant or at home. However I find it really difficult to get them from the local supermarkets, there are only a few brands to choose from and most of them contain rather high sugar/salt level. I have also resorted to local organic shops around my area but only very few sell baby snacks. I wonder why..

However I found many interesting types of organic snacks selling in US through online and am glad to be able to purchase them through a good friend of mine. Both Jared and Emily love these snacks and I do not need to worry that Jared chokes on them and most importantly they are made from natural organic ingredients.
