Kids' Christmas Party

Today, Emily's daycare and Jared's kindy had a Christmas Party. Every kid is required to bring some food for the party. I decided to make Gula Melaka Coconut milk jelly and double chocolate muffins. Both of them were very excited with the idea and volunteered to help. I bought the pre-mix muffin flour, therefore it was easy for Emily to prepare them. And they enjoyed scooping the mixture into the paper cups.

Emily's 9th Birthday

Emily has just turned 9 today. How time flies...
She had requested for a birthday party but I had to turn down her request since I am too lazy to host a party, I told her she can probably invite a few friends over next year when we move to our new house.
We had a modest celebration on last Sunday. And we got her a trolley school bag as birthday present which she had been begging to have one for a long time.

Today is also her daycare's field trip day. They visited the Kwang Wah Newspaper factory and McD Kitchen. And to her surprise, her daycare teachers have planned a surprise birthday celebration for her in McD as well. How thoughtful of them.

Just now she told me this is her 2nd happiest birthday, her best birthday was when we celebrated in San Diego Sea World 3 years ago.

Piano and Violin Recital - The Harlequin Years

Last Sunday night, Emily, my ex-USM friend, her daughter and I went for a Piano and Violin recital held at Komtar Auditorium. The performers in this concert are Foo Mei Yi, a Malaysian born Concert Pianist based in London, a Polish Violinist, Bartosz Woroch and a young and talented violinist, 13 year old Anthony Goon.
It was really entertaining watching them play their instruments so well. Alot of hardwork and talent within themselves which has brought them to this level.

Birthday Man, 2012

Today, hubby is another year wiser. We had a simple celebration last week just before he left for his business trip the next day. Emily insisted on celebrating daddy's birthday even though it was 1 week earlier, so we just went to buy a few slices of cheese cakes.

Jared was too tired that he dozed of before singing the birthday song for daddy. But this filial daddy insisted that both his babies need to be in his birthday photo, and there they are...

Emily gave daddy a greeting card

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DADDY
We Miss you !!

Funny Faces

Jared's Kindergatern Concert 2012

Last Friday was the last day of school for 2012. Jared has been attending preschool for almost 1 year, how time flies.  It was also Jared's kindy concert day which was held in the evening. I went off from office early and went to pick up Emily from school earlier with the reason that she had to attend her brother's concert.
When we reached the concert venue, it was already packed with many other parents. I was worried that Jared might be cranky if I was around with him too long, so I quickly left him with his teacher and went to the event hall with Emily. The concert started at 8pm with the K2 graduates making an entrance in their graduation gowns.
Jared's class put up a dance performance with the song "Say Hey". It was very entertaining looking at these little kids dancing in their pom-pons. I would say Jared did a good job dancing to the tunes as this is his first time performing on stage.

After all the performances, every kid was presented with a trophy.
Jared too received a trophy for his previous 1st prize in coloring and rhyme competition.

The night ended with a finale song sang by all the kids. There were also refreshments served to everyone.

Kids & Crafts

It's the beginning of the school holidays. No more exams stress for at least a couple of months, yippee!!!
Emily has also stopped attending art tuition class starting this week as her teacher has decided to retire. In order to keep both kids busy this morning,  I got them to work on some crafts. I googled and found some interesting craft ideas. It was a fun 2 hours activity and not forgetting the mess to clean up after that.

The Beginning of Our Four-Eyed Girl

My biggest fear has finally haunted me. Emily has been complaining about not being able to see word written on her classroom white board when seated far. This was some time in June this year. Initially we took her complaints lightly as we thought she made up the story in order to wear specs like most of her schoolmates. According to her, wearing specs makes her look pretty.. YIKES!!!
4 months ago hubby brought her to an optical shop to check out her power. The right side was good, but left side has a power of ~100. We hesitated and decided to onhold making spec for her, hoping that it will not get worse. Then last week we decided to bring her to another optical shop as she kept saying she was having problem to copy notes from the whiteboard. This time her left eye power shot up to 150 but the right eye is still good. Thankfully she only has mild astigmatism and no need to be corrected. Hubby chose the Myopia Control lens for her left side lens and we paid a bomb for her spectacles. Hopefully she will take good care of it and crossing fingers that her power will maintain.

Upon seeing jie jie's spectacles, Jared wanted to wear too, so daddy made him one too. How cool...

Langkawi Family Trip - Day 4 (16/10/12)

Today is the last day of our trip. We do not have anymore visiting plans. Hubby woke up at 7+am and went out for a early morning stroll, while we were still snoozing in our cozy beds. Weather was sunny.

By 8+, we were ready to go down for our buffet breakfast. The buffet spread was quite good, there is a salad counter, various types of breads, juice counter, local and western food. It was very relaxing to enjoy our breakfast with a good seaview.

After breakfast, we went back to our room and the kids changed into their swimming suits. They had a good splash in the pool, while I took a nap on the deck chair.

We checked out from the hotel and drove to the duty free shop at Kuah to grab some chocolates and a bottle of baileys. Then we found a shop which served noodles and we had lunch over there. After lunch, hubby found out that one of the car tyres is flat.. Oops. Luckily we found a car workshop nearby and paid RM5 to mend the punctured tyre.

Bye Bye Langkawi.. We hope to be back again...

Langkawi Family Trip - Day 3 (15/10/12)

We had planned to spend the whole morning at the beach, however, we woke up to a rainy weather. So we had to change plan. After taking our breakfast, we went to check-out from this resort. I have booked 2 different accomodations as we wanted the kids to experience both beach environment as well as hotel facilities. The hotels with facilites by the beach were a little too pricey.
We left our luggage at the resort lounge and drove to Langkawi Underwater World. Good thing we had plan to visit this place of attraction today and the rain doesn't seem to bother us at all. We waited for a few minutes before the door was opened at 10am. Ticket price was RM28 for adults and RM18 for kids.

As we entered the Aquarium, there are some flamingos and birds at the tropical forest area.
There are various types of sharks, stingrays, jellyfish, eels and other types of fishes.

The main attraction for the kids is the Penguins World. There are 2 types of penguin species at 2 different section, Rockhopper and African penguins. We waited awhile to watch the penguins being fed with small fish.

By 12+pm, we were out from there. I would give this place a miss if I were to visit Langkawi again. We went around to hunt for lunch and ended up in The Boat restaurant. Ordered 3 dishes and all three turned out to be disappointing.

Seemed like every dish was cooked with roughly cut cabbages.

After lunch, Emily insisted she wanted to visit the Mahsuri Mausoluem. She has heard about the ill-fated Mahsuri legend from her teacher. Hubby and Jared waited outside while I went in with her. Ticket price is RM5 for adults, RM2 for Emily. In Mahsuri Complex, we saw the traditional Malay houses where Mahsuri and her family lived before and some others. There were also many posters with pictures and stories about the Mahsuri legends in the Mahsuri Musuem.

After that, we went to get our luggage and headed to our next hotel, Awana Porto Malai. It is located in a secluded corner of Pantai Cenang and does not have a beach front. However it has a long boardwalk over seeing the sea. Very nice scenery at night. I booked through Agoda and paid RM192 with breakfast for four. We also requested for 2 single beds and suprisingly the beds turned out to be big. Room size is good, the toilet and bathroom is separated. It also has a balcony with garden and swimming pool view.

We took some afternoon snacks, enjoyed watching tv and rest awhile before we went down for a swim in the pool.

For dinner we went to Cactus which was recommended by my colleague and many others online. It has a variety of asian and western dishes. We ordered fish n chips and grilled chicken. Taste were good, portions were big and price was very reasonable. The owner is a friendly guy from Penang.
