Last weekend was a relaxing one, both Emily and Jared have finished their mid-term tests. We decided to bring them out for a movie, which we have not done so for a really long time. It was also the 1st time for Jared. As he is a big fan of Iron Man and so is Emily, we chose to watch Iron Man 3. They were really excited when we told them about this plan in the morning.
We took our breakfast at home and headed for GSC at QB to catch the 12pm show. Initially, I was a little concerned if Jared could watch the whole movie for 2 hours, so I prepared some snacks just in case he makes a fuss. However, he was really good throughout, I guess he was intrigued by all the Iron Man actions. Emily, who is a movie enthusiast, couldn't take her eyes off the screen throughout the whole show.

My Birthday..
Last Friday was my birthday. It was just another day but happy to receive many birthday wishes from hubby, kids and friends. Hubby bought me a cake, as usual the kids are the most excited and sang me 2 birthday songs, 1 in English and another in Mandarin. Later in the evening, we went out for a simple dinner.
Emily also gave me a card that she made at her daycare centre. This girl can be very sweet and occasionally heart-wrenching too.
Getting older has made me reflective and while some things are difficult to reflect on, I am enjoying the process.

Black Bottom Cupcakes for Teacher's Day Celebration
Jared came home a few days ago with a notice from his school informing us of Teacher's Day Celebration. Each kid is requested to bring some food to share with their friends and teachers. I can't really recall how he ended up asking me to bake some cupcakes for him. I found a nice recipe for Black Bottom cupcakes from JoyOfBaking. It is quite a simple recipe to follow and tastes good.
Unfortunately Jared didn't get to help out in the preparation as I started quite late. Yesterday was also the last day of the 2nd term exam, so Emily happily helped me to prepare some of the cupcakes. It was way past midnight when the last batch of cupcakes were done :). I then chilled them in the refrigerator as recommended.
Jared was very delighted to see the cupcakes when he woke up this morning, big smile on his face :)

Banana Bread for Breakfast
Tonight, while Emily was away for her tuition and hubby and Jared who were already in their dreamland, I managed to steal some time to bake a banana bread for tomorrow's breakfast. I followed the recipe from uTry.It. However I substituted sugar with molasses, chocolate chips with dried cranberry, sliced almonds with pumpkin seeds and vanilla yogurt with mango yogurt (I couldn't find vanilla yogurt). It turned out to be good and definately a healthy bread as breakfast for the kids.
