We had booked a English half day bus tour to Shirakawa-go with J-Hoppers (3,900yen for adults, 3500yen for kids). This is a Unesco World Heritage Site. Before 2008, it took 3 hours to reach there from Takayama, however with the completion of Tokai Hokuriku Expressway, the journey was reduced to 1 hour only. We passed through more than 20 long tunnels, with one extending to nearly 2km, the 2nd longest in Japan.
Our Japanese lady guide was very friendly and super informative. When we arrived at Shirakawa-go, the bus went to the observation deck at the top of the hill so that we could take pictures of the panoramic view of the village.

We were back to Takayama village around noon. Since it was still early, we decided to continue our exploration of this village on foot.
